The Mongolia Bowls
The Mangolia Bowls are the outermost bowls in all of Vail’s Back Bowls. The Inner and Outer Mongolia Bowls are located to the east of the Siberia Bowl. In order to access these bowls, take the Mongolia surface lift from the top of the Siberia Bowl.
These two bowls have the mildest pitch of all of the Back Bowls. You’ll have a tough time gaining speed on a deep powder day, but it’s a fun adventure and another place to find fresh tracks when the snow falls.
Terrain Info
Open bowls w/ sporadic pine trees and a mild pitch.
Mongolia Bowl Stats
- Opened: 1988
- Vertical Drop: Approx 1,000'
Both of the photos below were taken from Blue Sky Basin. Blue Sky Basin and the Mongolia bowls are both located far away from the base area on the front side of the resort. If you start your day in Lionshead Village and the lift lines are long, it can take you more then 1 hour to get back here.
The altitude in these bowls tops out at more than 11k feet and you can see that there aren’t a lot of pines trees growing here. You’ll find small pine trees poking through the snow and large spaces in between them. The landscape is unique here and the transition from above treeline to below makes these bowls a mystical place to ski when there is fresh snow.
Getting to the Mongolia Bowls
Take the Orient Express up through the China Bowl. From here, you can descend a short way across Silk Road down to the top of the Mongolia Poma Lift that you see in this photo.
