Image Dating Comments
This slide has an ink-stamped date of June 19, 1952 on the front of the cardboard mount.
The markings in the border of this slide have been crucial in establishing a date range for other photos from Milner Pass within the Coloradotopia archives. The year of the date here is considered reliable. This could be a development date, but the style of ink stamp for the date suggests it may have been added by the owner as an image capture date.
Comments & Discussion
This sign was located in approximately the same spot on the Continental Divide as the current sign, however, it was on the opposite side of the road. Trail Ridge road ran directly behind where the photographer would have been standing, and Poudre Lake was located to the right.
This slide came from a Chicago area estate sale where it was purchased by a dealer and sold to Coloradotopia.
Condition, Aging & Authenticity: There is only very slight fading of the red border on the backside. This is stored in the archive next to 4 other red border Kodachrome slides from this era. This one has the lightest shade of brown on the slide mount. The original coloring seems to be holding well upon entry into the archive, with luscious colors that are not captured well in the scan shown on this page.
