Image Dating Comments
This slide was dated to 1956 by the seller. While there is no date labeling on the slide, the seller was asked about the historical dating and they gave a lengthy response that ended with the following:
“… The only time I use a specific year is when I am certain or had evidence proving it. Otherwise I’ll use a general 1950s/1960s etc”.
Comments & Discussion
Smokey the Bear appears to be showing his face on the advertisement in between the signs here. That PSA ad is resting on top of an upgraded signpost. A more natural bending post was there prior to this, and it also had a different Smokey the Bear PSA. The middle sign can be used to date other photos from this era.
This slide came to Coloradotopia after being found at a Chicago area estate sale.
Condition, Aging & Authenticity: The slide’s image has darkened edges that have been digitally enhanced. The cardboard mount’s front has a blemish, but shows little or no signs of aging. The red border on the backside does show light signs of fading and aging.
