Image Dating Comments
This slide has a label of July 1960 handwritten in pen, and a punch-stamped development date of August 1960.
One of the most notable parts of this image is the wear and discolored portions of the sign. This sign would be repainted by 1963, so this aging can be used to date other photos from Loveland Pass.
Comments & Discussion
The image below shows the full version of this slide. None of the dirt or grime has been digitally removed in this version.
Look closely at the upper left corner of the sign. This is not a flat-edged sign. It has a wave pattern on the edges… the same edge pattern that can be seen on the Milner Pass sign around this time. This is worth mentioning because the signs were put up by different government agencies, but the signs may have come from the same supplier.
Condition, Aging & Authenticity: There is little/no discoloration on the cardboard portion of the slide. Viewed under a loupe, there is slight discoloration along the top edge, and slight fading of the handwritten ink that is not visible to the naked eye. Everything appears to be in good condition, but the slide needs to be cleaned.
