Hesperus is a small hill with only 700 ft of vertical rise, 26 trails, and one old school double chair. The ski area is located only 11 miles west of the small southwestern town of Durango. Hesperus has unusual operating hours: Thursdays and Fridays, they are only open for night skiing from 4 pm – 9 pm. They open at 10 am on the weekends, and are not open Monday through Wednesday. Hesperus is a popular spot for Durango locals to get some night skiing in after work since it is only 15 minutes from downtown.

Getting to Hesperus
Hesperus is located on US-160. From Durango, take US-160 heading west until you crest the top of the pass. Hesperus is on the left a few hundred feet down the road. From Cortez, take US-160 for 33 miles. Hesperus is near the top of the pass on the right about 10 minutes after you pass the town of Mancos.

This is a natural snow resort. Don’t expect early and late season skiing or riding here. This is a locals’ mountain, so if you want to know when Hesperus is getting ready to open each year, you can pay attention to the weather.
There are no resort amenities here. This is a small ski hill with only a couple of structures at the base area. Plan accordingly. On the plus side, you can park right up against the ski slope.
There is a small tubing area at the base. There is no surface lift here for tubers, but the mountain does have tubes for rent.
