Image Dating Comments
This photograph pre-dates the 2013 photograph in the archive. This can be deduced by looking at the surface of the concrete slab that the left marker sits on.
There is a 5th generation Toyota Forerunner in the background, which was not made until 2009 or later.
Comments & Discussion
A few lone dirty patches of melting snow can be seen in the far background, indicating this was likely a mid/late summer photo. CO Highway 9 runs directly behind where the photographer would have been standing to take this photo.
The base of the slab on the left had almost entirely lost its original surface by the time that this image was captured. That marker was added in 1929, and the base’s surface remained in good shape for a solid 30 years. A few cracks can be seen beginning to propagate in the late 1960s.
