The fall season had already seen its first snowfall by the time this image was captured. The fall snowpack will usually appear more evenly distributed when compared to the late spring… you might see a dusting instead of patches of melting snow. The peak in the far distance of this photo has a thin layer of fresh snow.
One thing that is unique about this sign is that it only marks the Continental Divide, not the directions to each ocean. That info is typically found on all of these signs on the divide in Colorado. However, this is not the only sign that is missing this. The sign on Hancock Pass lists the national forests on each side of the divide rather than the oceans.
