Image Dating Comments
This slide’s mount has an ink-stamped date of July 1965. This is the development date for the slide. The snowpack is consistent with a late-spring snowpack, which means that June may be a more likely capture date for the image.
Comments & Discussion
The Continental Divide sign shown here was added by the US Forest Service around 1957. It is similar to others that were added in Colorado at the same time.
This photo was taken from across Highway 50, in the Monarch Crest parking lot. It shows a melting spring snowpack with several patches of snow remaining.
Condition, Aging & Authenticity: The ink stamps are fading, but there are no other visible signs of aging on the slide mount’s surface. There are 4 good corners upon entry into the archive.
