Image Dating Comments
This slide has the date “6/52” written in pen on the front. The snowpack looks consistent with the month of June.
Comments & Discussion
The elevation here reads 11,314′. This is 7′ higher than the current measurement of 11,307′.
The ‘VC’, ‘HM’ and large ‘L’ graffiti symbols are notable here for dating purposes. The HM and the L would remain visible through 1954, but the VC would fade away and be gone by 1954. While the sign looks like it is due for repainting, it would not be repainted or replaced for another two years.
Condition, Aging & Authenticity: The front of the slide mount has an overall darkened hue. This is possibly due to aging or possibly original to the slide mount. Heavy signs of aging can be seen on the backside when viewing the red inks. The coloring of the image is much less luscious than those sitting next to it in the archives upon arrival.
