Brief Description
This photo comes from a pair of photos that were captured together in 1965. The Continental Divide sign that is shown here sat on top of this pass during much of the 1950s and 60s, although it is one of many signs that have been erected here over the decades by the state’s highway department and the US Forest Service.

Image Dating Comments
The back of this image is ink-stamped “June 65R”. While June is presumed to be the development date for the photo, the snowpack in the background looks very much like a June snowpack on top of Loveland Pass as well. It is possible this could have been a May photo, but it likely a June photograph that was developed by someone as soon as they got home from their trip.

Comments & Discussion
This photo was likely taken just a few months before this sign would be removed and replaced. The stone base that you see here is mostly still in place today, but there hasn’t been a sign on that side since 2007.
This photograph is shown below next to CL-J65B.
Condition, Aging & Authenticity: There is no spidering or cracking of the photo’s surface area. The corners have been banged up, especially the lower left corner. The photo has a concave shape upon entry into the archive.
