Image Dating Comments
This archive has a reliably dated photo from 1952. A comparison of the damage and weathering of the signs in both images indicates that this image was captured after 1952.
It is also known that this sign was replaced by 1961.
Comments & Discussion
This sign is still located on the northern side of Trail Ridge Road in this image, but the landscape behind it has changed. There are signs of freshly moved dirt right behind the sign. It is possible that the sign’s location was moved slightly due to the road being widened or the area somehow being modified.
This is the same sign that could be seen around this location on the Continental Divide in 1952. This can be confirmed by looking at the markings on the upper edge of the sign.
Condition, Aging & Authenticity: The slide’s cardboard has had 1 corner cut or trimmed. It appears that the adhesive to put the slide together may have been hastily applied or has seeped through the cardboard.
