Image Dating Comments
This slide has an ink-stamped date of August 1984 on the mount. The year is barely legible due to fading. However, upon entry into the archive, just enough of the “8” is still visible under magnification for this slide to be dated to 1984.
Comments & Discussion
The Monarch Pass summit sign reigns supreme in this image, but if you look closely between the sign posts and just above the entrance to the Monarch Crest building, you’ll see the Continental Divide lettering above the door. At one point, one of the white Continental Divide signs was spotted hanging above that door. It was replaced with some more attractive lettering within a year.
Ektachrome slides are not common in the archive, but this is not the only one. For every 30 Kodachrome slides, there might be 1 Ektachrome slide.
Condition, Aging & Authenticity: The ink stamps are fading and the year is almost completely gone. The mount has no discoloration from aging. The mount has an ink pen streak and the writing “A14” upon entry into the archive.
