Early photos show this pass’s altitude at 10,800 feet. This was adjusted to 10,850′ by the 1950s. The final 6 feet of altitude were added sometime after the 1980s.
The top of this pass is still a popular place to stop and pose for photos. Like other Continental Divide signs around Colorado, this one had begun to accumulate stickers by the time this photo was taken.
