Rocky Mountain High - Snowmass
When you get to the top of Snowmass and can go no further, you will be in John Denver’s territory. Named after one of John’s greatest hits, Rocky Mountain High is an intermediate ski trail that descends from the summit.
You’ll need to take the Cirque Poma surface lift in order to get here. You’ll find a plaque dedicated to John Denver near the top of this lift, overlooking the valley and the rest of the ski resort.

About John
In addition to being a celebrated country music artist, John was also the founder of the Windstar Foundation and a vocal advocate for the environment.
As you travel up the Sheer Bliss or Big Burn lifts to get here, you’ll notice that the trees are getting smaller as you approach the top. By the time you get up to the bottom of the surface lift, you will be above the treeline and there will only be a handful of shrubs and pine trees visible above the snowpack.
You can take the same surface lift in order to access the Cirque Headwall area. That is among some of the toughest terrain on the mountain. There is also a backcountry access gate at the top in this area.
John Denver's Memorial Plaque
Perched high above the rest of Snowmass, you’ll find John Denver’s plaque among the alpine winds at the top of the resort. Views from the Snowmass summit extend all of the way to the Gore Range and beyond. Stop, take a moment, and enjoy your time here.
