Steamboat Transportation

You can fly here or you can drive here. If you are planning a trip to Steamboat Springs for your vacation, here are the key things that you need to know about transportation:

The Yampa Valley Regional Airport is about a 30-minute drive from Steamboat Springs. If you choose to come here from Denver, you can plan on a drive of about 3 hours. Rabbit Ears Pass may stand in your way if you are coming from Denver, but if the weather was good enough to get you through the Eisenhower Tunnel, it will often be good enough for you to get over Rabbit Ears Pass. This mountain pass is much less likely to close because it is at a lower elevation.

Steamboat Transportation FAQ

Check for flights into the Yampa Valley Regional Airport first. The main disadvantage of that airport is that it is small and does not have as many flights in/out of there as Denver International Airport.

The drive from the airport measures approx 178 miles, and it should take just over 3 hours, depending on the weather.

This is not completely necessary if you are staying in downtown Steamboat Springs or anywhere on the free shuttle route. The free shuttle can get you to the resort just fine if you are staying downtown, and you will be able to walk to most of the things that you might need.

Renting a car is still not a bad idea, especially for families, but Steamboat is on the list of resorts where you can survive without a vehicle once you are here.
