Vail Lodging

Vail has some of the most luxurious lodging in Colorado, and almost all the best options are within walking distance of the ski lifts. Most of Vail’s ski hotels are located in Lionshead Village and Vail Village. You will find vacation rentals throughout the valley beyond the villages, especially in the East Vail area, but there are huge advantages to staying right at one of the base areas, and there are plenty of great lodging options available in each village.

Vail Lodging FAQ

The villages are connected by a free bus route that runs every few minutes. Both have tons of lodging and dining. Vail Village gets our vote because of the nightlife on this side of town, and because you will have quicker access to Blue Sky Basin if you start your ski day in Vail Village instead of Lionshead Village.

Top picks from Coloradotopia staff include the Sonnenalp, because of the cool indoor pool lounge area, and the Grand Hyatt Vail, which has a pool and hot tubs overlooking Gore Creek. The Four Seasons Vail also makes the list for having a huge year-round pool.

Book early if you are coming during the ski season. Aim for January, and avoid Christmas vacation time.

Not skiing? April and May will be some of the cheapest times to visit and this is a great option if you are not coming here to ski. This is usually right after the ski resort closes.

Many people who come to Beaver Creek will take at least one day to ski at Vail. However, if your goal is to ski Vail, we suggest you just book your stay in one of the two base area villages here. You’ll have a great experience and walking to the lifts in the morning can feel almost priceless. You won’t save much money by staying in Beaver Creek unless you stay someplace far away from the base area of the resort.
